There was a time when the name Chris Christie was a favourite
among the Republicans as an able candidate for the Presidential elections in
2016, perhaps it still is. But has this changed since the “Bridge gate” scandal
that rocked the Governor’s office?
Tom Moran of the New Jersey Star-Ledger is the latest critic
of Governor Christie. In his scathing article he reportedly said that his paper
“blew” it when they endorsed Chris Christie during his re-election bid in 2013.
The article reportedly calls Christie a “bully” and is
critical of his alleged role in closing several lanes near Fort Lee (George
Washington Bridge.) The article goes on to attack Governor Christie for using “Hurricane
Sandy aid as a political slush fund.”
Governor Christie for his part has denied any wilful wrong
doing and has taken the people responsible to task for causing huge hardship to
the people in the lane closing incident. He has so far braved all criticism
thrown at him and taken responsibility for the actions of his subordinates.
Governor Christie said that he wants to finish the job he was
elected to perform and is focussing on the same. In a tweet he said “I’ll be
damned if I let anything get in the way of my job,” “Anybody who tries to
distract me from doing my job is going to be disappointed bc I won’t be
distracted.”
Recently New Jersey has suffered considerably by nature’s
fury and many people are looking towards the administration to do whatever they
can to put things back in order.
Governor Christie said that he will work with the different
Mayors, free holders, legislators and others to get people’s lives back to
normal as soon as possible. He has said that everyone has to count on each
other to help each other to accomplish this task.
Recently Governor Christie’s administration announced that
the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has awarded the state $26.3
million in federal Hazard Mitigation Grant Program funding.
The money will be used to buy 89 homes from willing sellers
affected by flooding in sections of Woodbridge. The program will keep this land
as open space and protect the area from future flooding.
With the latest round of funding the total amount allocated
stands at $ 100 million. The money will be used to buy 361 homes in Sayreville,
South River and Woodbridge in Middlesex County.
Will the recent events dampen Chris Christie’s possible bid
for the presidency in 2016? Or will he turn this set back around to emerge a
stronger and perhaps a better leader? Fortunately time is on his side as he has
more than enough time to turn things around before the primaries begin.
